The city put in place ways people could vote in a safe, social distanced way in order to protect poll workers and voters during a pandemic. One of these ways was early voting, available for many hours/days before Election Day. Adults of voting age should consider these are unusual covid times and think through how they can best ensure they can vote. Requesting an absentee ballot is one way. If that looks like it won’t work out, early voting is your next step. Consider what we all saw happening at the Wisconsin primary where the state had to implement social distancing protocols.

Do you seriously think the DC BOE is trying to suppress the vote? They are doing a hard job in a pandemic with volunteers and you are complaining when you could have voted for days before June 2. Try helping them out in November by voting early.

It amazes me that in 2020 people still wait until the very last minute (i.e., Election Day) to cast a vote. At least in DC, early voting has been available for many elections now. I went a week ago, in and out in minutes, only person there. If you experienced 5-hour lines for the primary (which was just rubber stamping uncontested ballots in most wards), what do you expect for the real thing in November? GO EARLY. Don't fiddle with absentee ballots in the mail. Just show up during one of the 10+ days polling centers will be open and vote. Don't wait until the last minute.

I voted early (and always do). In and out in 5 minutes.

Taking responsibility for voting? Are you insane? Protection during a pandemic should not come at the expense of the ability to reasonably access a polling center. You seem to be supporting voter suppression. Are you a Republican?

NP: I’m not clear if this was a factor but many of the people who usually volunteer to staff voting centers are likely at high risk for serious problems if they get covid 19. It’s great that there was a good turnout and that people stayed in line. But I hope that we can push the use of absentee ballots and make sure that everyone who wants one has one.
