We have an 8 year old Cayenne. We’ve had no unusual maintenance issues in that time and most years we only take it in once for an annual service. The dealer always provides a loaner (once we got a Panamera which was fun). So it’s easy. However those services can be expensive so budget for that.

Our cayenne has over 100k miles on it and we expect to drive it for several more years. It’s a great car to drive and super comfortable.

Neither. Spring for the Mercedes coupe or Tesla SUV.

You have to compare apples to apples. You also have to experience "Porsche Options Cost" first hand to understand the pain.

I find the discussions about platform sharing, switchgear, parts bin, etc, completely beside the point with regards to Maserati. The chassis is indeed one that was originally developed in conjunction with Mercedes, but does that matter? Does it work well for a car in this price range? Yes it does, then why does it matter if it is shared with a Jeep? Same with the switch gear - any Maserati owner can tell you they would rather have switchgear and electronics that *works* than bespoke switchgear that is temperamental. The key for any of the Maserati vehicles has always been about the combination of styling, interior design, "Italian power", and exclusivity (or lack of popularity if you want to call it that instead).

For me, the Levante drops the ball in the exterior design department. It does not look graceful, athletic, or special. It just looks bland and anonymous. Even though the Ghibli was not a particularly expensive car, it got a lot of attention, especially the first couple of years when it just came out. People would stop and stare at it in parking lots, come talk to me at gas stations, and give me thumbs up in the school kiss-and-ride line. I now drive a MB that is much more expensive than the Ghibli and no one gives it a second look.

if I'm paying 80k for an SUV I don't want it on the same platform as a Jeep

That platform was initially designed in conjunction with Mercedes if that makes you feel any better. That said, Maserati doesn’t have the deep resources to design solid platforms. They need to cannibalize parts from the FCA bin.

It wasn't in conjunction, Daimler bought Chrysler and called the shots. JGC owners like to say "it's basically a Mercedes SUV" but the platform is already 10+ years old and a product of an era when Mercedes was cost-cutting and making crap cars.

My point still stands. OP's $80k should go to a Cayenne, RR Sport, or X5 w/ the 8cyl.

Ah, the merger of equals. The stories I have heard from people who worked with the Germans at Daimler...they basically raided that company for cash. At least the Fiat team worked hard at blending their workforce.

I had a Maserati Ghibli for 5 years and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's closely related to the Levante. That said I would recommend a Porsche Macan over the Levante. I don't particularly like the Cayenne. If you really want something larger, the Mercedes GLE coupe is pretty good and is more aggressive looking, and you can get it in AMG trim for extra omph.

A simple google search will quickly answer this question.

The Cayenne is widely well-regarded by auto journalists and consumers alike.

The Levante is widely criticized for it's awful looks, cheap construction (borrows many parts from Jeep / Chrysler), and abysmal reliability. Other than the amazing exhaust note, the Levante is a dumpster fire.

Although, looking back at your question, it was specifically about which is easier to maintain. This makes me think you're looking to purchase a pre-owned vehicle. If that's the case, avoid both and lease a BMW X3 or Audi Q5.

Try Macan GTS or Turbo if you can handle a little less space. Macan truly drives like a sports car with not too high seating.
