That platform was initially designed in conjunction with Mercedes if that makes you feel any better. That said, Maserati doesn’t have the deep resources to design solid platforms. They need to cannibalize parts from the FCA bin.
It wasn't in conjunction, Daimler bought Chrysler and called the shots. JGC owners like to say "it's basically a Mercedes SUV" but the platform is already 10+ years old and a product of an era when Mercedes was cost-cutting and making crap cars.
My point still stands. OP's $80k should go to a Cayenne, RR Sport, or X5 w/ the 8cyl.
