The styling is more low key than other cars. Even some lower priced brands.

If you were a fan of BMW and switched to another brand, and love it, what is your new favorite? I don't care much about SUVs, but I can consider cross-over. Prefer either sedan or two-door, with powerful engine (but nothing too crazy, I am a middle age woman). I tried Tesla and I dont' like it. I prefer to keep it under $50k. Any suggetions?

Try Porsche Panamera in a certified pre owned sale. A little big hatchback sedan but worth it.

It looks interesting, but a little bit too fleshy. I always liked the simplicity of BMW.

Good, reliable cars for sure, but they lack the “soul” of a BMW.
If that’s important to OP I’d go with MB or Audi.

Thank you , this is a great input as I am inclining to Lexus.

That’s what we did. We had a 335xi but once it was ten years old found out that you couldn’t get the all-wheel drive in a manual. And the Ms don’t come with all-wheel drive. We have LOVED our S4.

How's the reliability on RS3? Had an S3 and loved it and thinking about RS3

I've only had it for 2.5 years, no problems whatsoever. But I think that's pretty normal for new cars? I plan to trade it in when the 4 year warranty is up, which I've done with all my cars, so I can't speak to longer term reliability. Really nice sounding engine though! It's a kick.

"nothing else compares" until you drive a Porsche and realize every model they make is better than the equivalent-sized BMW

The real problem with BMWs is typically the nut behind the wheel.

I'm the PP. You are correct.
