That is your job issue, not your grade issue. Those issues can happen at any level.

I'm this, usually TW a day a week but for the past 2 months been every day. Cant say I'm loving the 100% TW but.......I like my job and the workload, and the pay supports my family of 5

Thanks everyone! I will see how my 2nd interview goes (I interviewed already with the person that is the Direct Supervisor but this one is with her Supervisor) and if I do get an offer, I’ll feel a little more comfortable with the idea. We have several of these positions at my work now but they were promoted in a different environment years ago when the Agency risked losing people in large numbers. A downturn in funding has made these jobs less available. I could probably get a 15 where I am but I’d likely have to Supervise people.

I am not looking only for the grade. I feel like a non-supervisory 14 is a good job. Of course, I applied, so clearly I want this kind of job. I just wanted some perspectives from strangers on the Internet to help me think through my next steps, be it with this or with another opportunity. Got some good feedback and things to consider!

I respectfully disagree. It's $10,000 more per year and you get to do all the hardest work "because of your grade."

But, isn't this the reason for being a non-sup 15?! OP, I'm an expert in my field, also a non-sup 15, and I really like it. I'd love to get to an SL or ST but I need to be older / more experienced.

Did you work in the Federal Government before you got that job? I’ve been in Federal Government my entire career, so I’m not going to leave, although I have moved agencies. It can be totally different depending on the job.

How long is the commute? Would you do it with 2 days telework?

+1,000 and another non-supervisory GS-15 here. I telework two days a week and then telework plus have an alternative day off the following week. I work in a pretty specialized area that has real deliverables (unlike many Federal jobs). A non-supervisory GS 15 is the holy grail of government jobs - well paid (by government standards), important work and great flexibility in terms of role and responsibilities but without any of the very significant drawbacks of being a manager in the Federal government. I never ever want to be a supervisor in the Federal government where one is responsible for the actions of people that I can't fire (but can sue me if I try to correct their performance or make my job difficult and my office look terrible if they screw up).

Yup. This is me, although people in private practice were thumbing their noses at me a year ago. Not so much anymore.

I'm a nonsupervisory 15 with a long commute. I love my job and was able to get a good telework schedule after several years, but in hindsight I would prioritize commute above all.

The non-supv 15s at my agency we’re all given their grades because they were passed over for supervisory roles and then complained.

I would take it if the 30 mn each way on your commute didn't break your family life. Actually even if it looked like it would in the short term, I'd still take it because the future has so much more telework.
I have been a non-supervisory 14 trying for a anything-15 for so long, I'm close to giving up.

Non-supervisory Fed is awesome. Plus, at a financial agency I am pulling in $245 with a bit more room to go. Tiny raise that would come with supervisory role almost certainly wouldn’t be worth it.
