OP, your negotiating rate just went up by $50,000.

I am completely serious - contact a high-end nanny or broker firm if you can find one and let them connect you with a wealthy family. They'll be able to negotiate a great contract for you but I would ask for no less than:

- A firm 3-month contract if you just want to do this for the summer / so if they let you go mid-summer they are required to pay
- An option to negotiate for a full year's contract at the beginning of fall
- Guaranteed 30-days pay past the date of termination (normally this wouldn't fly but parents are desperate)
- An acceptable lodging agreement which includes at least 2 bedrooms and a separate kitchen
- Salary paid by direct deposit or check on a biweekly basis
- Set hours of 40 a week plus overtime at 1.5 base rate
- All flights and hotel rooms paid for for family vacations
- An hourly rate per a child if the owner brings in a 'extra' friend's child
- A dedicated bedroom/office/bonus room for class instruction
- Per diem rate for your moving, storage, and daily food costs
- A personal car only for your use and a credit card for gas

They will also negotiate your tutoring/nannying schedule, but wealthy families will FIGHT over you if you can agree to nanny children from the newborn age to 5 years old and also do daily tutoring in your language specialties. And really it doesn't even matter what the languages are but I would highlight Spanish, French, and Chinese if they are in your repertoire.

An agency will help you put together a comparative portfolio showing off your resume and teaching skills, as well as a video demonstration of your languages if they are really good. While getting you an interview with families whose net worth exceed at least $5 million.

They'll probably charge you the either the first month's pay for a year-long contract or 10% of the summer salary if lesser but if they can get you a guaranteed salary of $6,000+ a month with free housing plus all the extra incentives for you and your kids -- its worth it.

That’s great! That’s the kind of stuff they want. Though it only counts if you’re fluent.

Do you have childcare lined up for your kids? It’s very unlikely that a wealthy family would allow you to bring them with you.

Sailed? Its barely begun. People were clueless ninnies who thought this would be over in 2-4 weeks. Now families are signing year-long rentals in Connecticut and Massachusetts rentals.

They know the schools aren't going to be back in session for at least 3 months and I honestly think the people who are hoping for a fall in-person classes are delusional.

Parents limped along trying to tutor and watch their kids for the spring.

Summer that is all over. People are fed up and they can't send the kids anywhere still.

Its the best time to get into the market and with parents being recalled to work already -- the demand is even greater.

Okay. Try applying for the agencies that staff these jobs and see if you don’t get laughed out of the office.

Demand is higher for flexible single people — not someone married with kids looking to bring an entourage and a predictable schedule.

Wow I thank you for the example and thank you all so much. I didn’t realize there were so many top rooms. Now to polish up my resume and start searching.

Training industry has come to a virtual halt. Lots of layoffs and in house teams are being cut. Only basic on boarding and skills training is happening right now.

No. The market was completely changed. I promise you that there are plenty of families who are willing to pay competitively for someone with a teaching background to come teach their kids during the day without requiring that same person to be available 24/7.

Over 100 full-time or over 30 hour a week nanny positions have been posted in the D.C., VA, and MD Nanny forum message boards in the month of May alone.
