It’s fine. Not everyone agrees with these harsh lockdown restrictions.

This seems very low risk to me. Especially if they answer the call of nature in the great outdoors while on the road.

Totally agree. OP, you can’t leave in fear forever, life’s to short and the odds are totally in there favor. Stop watching the nightly news.

I think it's fine. There's obviously some risk to your parents, but it's up to your parents to decide about that. People can't stay in bubbles forever. (And I say this as someone very exasperated by the protests & litigation.)

This. It's our new normal. We will be taking some risks, people. Get used to it.

You have a different risk tolerance than they do. It's all fine. Everyone just has to live with their choices.

+1

- another science loving democrat. there is a serious mental health cost in an abstinence only approach. not to mention its doomed to fail. better to take well thought out low risk steps then to go nuts one day book a flight to the bahamas because you're going insane

I don't think the risk here is too high. Now, if they were planning to fly that would completely different. At most they'd need to refuel once. They should probably pack their lunch and snacks. If the pregnant SIL can pee in a bucket or adult diaper en route, even better.

If everyone has been responsibly SIP I don’t see the issue. Expanding the number of people/families you SIP with is the next logical step (double your bubble). What is the real problem?

They are all adults.

Is this in one of the five NY regions where PAUSE restrictions were lifted by Cuomo?

If both sets have been careful, why not? People don’t create the virus, and the chances that someone is an asymptomatic carrier if they have been SIP are remote. Even gas stations are outdoors and hand sanitizer kills the virus.

I might be your SIL. DH and I are taking a 4 hr drive to see his parents.

We miss them and they have been pretty depressed since the SIP started. It will be a good visit for everyone.

Yeah I don't see any issue with this although I can understand why some people might. The risk is so very very low.

I see no problem with this. Good for them!

If they have both been careful, I don't see that it's a huge risk. At most they'll have to stop to pee, but they can wear masks and wash their hands, and you're not in the bathroom that long. We are debating doing the same thing this summer.

You just don't want to look like the bad brother. Let it go.
