Maybe the size down was bad advice. I first bought them 20 years ago, but I tried them on in store, and I took to them immediately. Maybe they just aren't for you, but I never found them narrow. I don't think my feet are wide, but I do think Chacos allow for a natural forefoot spread that is typical in women.

I hear they take a lot of adjusting. There are videos on youtube. The shape of them doesn't quite work for me so I stick to birkenstocks. They recently came out with a line that is a bit more sport like, teva-ish. You may want to look into them

Love the Mega (no toe strap) because I prefer the extra support of wider straps. Cloud is super comfortable. Love my Chacos!!

I'm a big Chacos fan and wear them for walking many miles around the city. I do not like toe strap.

OP - okay I got no toe strap and sized down to 6, and the style I chose was the Mega - maybe they look more Birkenstock-ish that way to me.

I have been a Chaco fan for 15 years - I’m a no toe strap gal. I hate the feeling and it never offered much more support. I’ve been hiking, canoeing, you name it - did not need the strap.
In my case with size I usually wear an 8.5 in most shoes and sometimes even 9 but in Chacos I have to size down to an 8. Otherwise there is too much rubber up top and I trip. I’ve ordered both over the years but the 8 is more comfy and a better fit.

Same, I loved Chacos until I bought a toe strap version. They actually caused some sort of tendon strain down the tops of my feet. The regular version stays put even in active situations. Maybe for rafting it would be essential, not otherwise. They’re great for walking.
