my kid has attended Francis since pre-k and Kennedy was one of the people who was heavily involved in organizing parents and the neighborhood to lobby their councilmembers and the chancellor to not shut down the school. And he’s showed up consistently to push for modernization funding. Evans was also helpful in that effort, but Kennedy is the only one of the challengers to him who has consistently shown up for the Francis community, and I know he also advocated for Shaw Middle School last summer and for Garrison as well. Most of the Francis parents I know are voting for him including LSAT and HSA leaders and the former and current ward 2 board of education members have endorsed him.

Got four mailers in over the past three days for Patrick Kennedy. He’s getting a lot of outside groups and PACs to spend money on his candidacy, but I’ve seen nothing disclosed on the DC Board of Elections site yet for his disclosures.

Mailers received include:
BWLDC - Baltimore/Washington Laborers District Council: lobbying group for local construction laborers union
Democrats for Education Reform - Pro-charter lobbying group tied to Corey Booker and NYC financiers

Kennedy’s priorities seem to align strongly with Bowser.

For a lot of families in Ward 2 that care about seeing improvements in DCPS, other candidates will likely be a better choice than Kennedy.


Not sure why you think Kennedy and Bowser are aligned. I went to the debate in March and he was the only main candidate there who said he does NOT want Bowser’s endorsement: https://twitter.com/fenitn/status/1235739197983592452?s=21

Also, as others have noted, he was integral in saving Francis-Stevens from closure and has been a strong advocate for the school. I haven’t seen any of the other candidates speak up in favor of saving that school or do anything at all with supporting DCPS. And as someone else noted he has the most donors from within the ward and is using public financing.

Ps - please use this thread to alert of us of outside group mailers or calls for any of the candidates. I really like to know who is putting their money behind candidates before I vote. To me, this is more revealing than any words that come out of a candidate’s mouth.

Also voting for Kennedy. Something about Kishan when he was in my neighborhood (Dupont) rubbed me the wrong way. He seemed disingenuous to me. Too over the top and definitely could tell he was into being a politician and moving up the ranks.
Went to an event someone hosted at their home for Kennedy and we all asked some tough questions and he fielded them honestly. Also, for a young man to care about public elementary school in his teens is pretty awesome. He came across as real and caring, informed and intelligent.

He's 28, has been an ANC commissioner since 2012. Been elected by his colleagues as commission chair five times. Also has been involved in several neighborhood organizations.

If you want astroturf, that's Grossman - only 19% of his money is from Ward 2.

I'm absolutely disgusted by both Grossman and Pinto. They have no chance, so the only thing they are doing is splitting the vote to ensure that Jack wins. Idiots.

I'm voting for Kennedy, as he has shown continued leadership and has the best chance of beating Evans. I very much respect Fanning and Kishan, as they have put their time in and it is entirely valid that they would throw their names in the hat, but Kennedy is better and has broader reach.
