Of course we didn't. We're not selfish a-holes like most people apparently are.

We FaceTimed only.

I actually only know 2 people who did.

One had grandma stop by and visit for the evening/dinner. They live in NJ.

Another couple is late 50s/early 60s with 2 sons aged 23-25. One son lives in NYC and one in DC. When things started getting bad, the NYC son left NYC and moved back home with the parents in suburban Philadelphia; DC son stayed here. Today DC son was home for mothers day also. I am assuming he is now moving there for the medium/long haul -- not just making a 1 day visit. Dad is a cardiologist at UPenn so I'd expect/hope they wouldn't take unnecessary risks.

Outside visits with social distancing are fine. That’s what we did. Sat on MIL’s patio for a while and chatted. No hugging or touching.

My ILs are in their 80s and somewhat frail, but still independent. We have been doing patio visits where we sit outside and them inside, while talking on speakerphone. We did that today and it was nice.

Yes, there will be a spike.

Probably a bunch of old people dying from broken hearts.

Seriously. Poor old people. There are safe ways to see them in person.

My mom lives on the 21st floor of a high rise. I'd love to go see her, but I'm still going to work and I worry that I'm exposed. Obviously the "stand outside and talk" strategy doesn't work for 21 floors.

She can't meet you outside? That's what I did with my mom.

We did have a “cheat” day. We’ve all been strictly working from home and social distancing so felt the risk was not too bad. We had a great day and hope we don’t have any negative consequences from it. Up until Friday, I was not planning to join. But then I started thinking, are we supposed to completely isolate ourselves for 18 months? That’s ridiculous and untenable. As long as we’re being 95% safe, we can take a few small risks.

My mom is out of state. It’s a great excuse not to have to see each other!

If my family was local I would definitely use social distancing as an excuse not to see anyone.

Anonymous wrote:All across my Facebook feed are pictures of friends celebrating Mother’s Day today with their own moms or other family members who they are not currently living with. Is staying home and social distancing over? I am really surprised so many people felt this was the time to “cheat” and see family. Guessing people are just over it but it doesn’t seem like the risks of getting parents or older family risks are any lower now. Wonder if there will be a spike in cases 2-3 weeks from now.

Are you sure? Most people in my Facebook feed posted old pictures from prior celebrations. Not from today.

PP here. Fair enough. That’s trickier.

Nope, didn't see my mom who is very close but we probably would not have otherwise.

I Facetimed with my three children and grandchildren and dropped dinner off at my mothers. It was not a good Mother's Day.
