Long story short...Friend’s daughter had it done and had serious complications involving a bone infection requiring multiple surgeries and going to the hospital for months to be hooked up on some machine several days a week...she was 17. At one point they thought she wouldn’t make it. It’s very rare but I would not risk it during the pandemic.

Name or oral surgeon please. So we can avoid him?

(Not traceable, since you are a friend of the friend).

He says he can feel it but so far it doesn't hurt.

It is pushing on the molar next to it. He just got through two tears of braces and I don’t want it to mess up his teeth and bite.

This.
Does pushing mean it's hurting him? Can he feel it?

Ask a lot of questions. The more you ask, amazingly the time line for the removal will change....

I didn't have all four of mine out until I was 29 and TTC. I recovered in like a day? I never even took an advil for the pain. This can wait.

He has the x-ray in late August so we are closing in on a year since then. Spring Break was the only time he had off school for long enough to recover and not miss school. Now he will have a month where he has nothing at all to do.

I would do it - all four - right now. I think things will shut down again a few times over the next few years until there is a vaccine and cure. I would take the risk now and get all 4 done at once. The hospitals are in good shape. If there is a problem then your son won't have to wait to be seen and he will get the help he needs.

Hmmmmm ask your orthodontist if it's an emergency, if not wait!
