If college is open and has at least some classes in person, my DS will be there. He will be living with two other people in an apartment, not in a dorm.

If classes are fully online, he can move into his apartment if that's what he wants to do (as long as at least one of his roommates joins him - I can't really see him living alone).

Many kids in my town (a college town) stayed in town as they rent apartments. Things have opened up in my town and you can now eat in restaurants. I typically don't eat out but the
students, professors, staff and admin are certainly supporting local restaurants as they are busy.

I live in a college town. The restaurants just opened back up in my college town for inside dining. The restaurants are slammed with college students and professors.

My college town has about 70,000 students. Many live in apartments year round. College students in my town typically have a lot of money.

They are dining in restaurants. I fail to see campus not opening up.

College students are also working the restaurant jobs.

Life goes on.

The premise of the OP is not correct. I don't think colleges will open if things are the same. We only have one Liberty Univ. I trust colleges do the right thing.

If you raise them right, college kids should be fully capable of making their own responsible decisions. Keep in mind if they weren’t in college, they would be working a full time job and likely supporting themselves.

We have to stand up to it and hopefully the colleges--liberal bastions that they are-- can lead that charge. If they open, students will return.

This is ridiculous! I'm as liberal as you can get and I would have been thrilled if Trump was right about hydroxychloroquine. I don't want people dying, I don't want people starving, I don't want my kids locked in our house indefinitely, I don't want my retirement savings/stock portfolio in the tank...Get a grip.

If my ds’s college is open, he will be there. It’s a small school in an area that is peaking right now. All of his classes are under 30 kids. He lives and eats in a campus owned fraternity house with about 30 guys. I think as far as colleges go it’s a reasonable scenario.

At that point, I will be working in a high school of almost 3k and dh will be in an office building with thousands, so I don’t see how it will be much different. Everyone will have to assume risk by fall.

It’s because that has been pretty much the ask from government and they are complying. We are doing that but hate it and think it’s way too extreme. What if going back to college means going back to NYC? My DD will be a senior at a university in NYC that is currently planning to reopen, if possible, within city and state guidance at the time. I was initially in the camp of hoping they would have to continue remote classes and thinking she might never be able to return to NYC. Now wondering if there are ways to make if safer. For roughly the equivalent of the cost of a single in a five person suite in her dorm, she could get a very tiny studio apartment. Think that might be the only option, but not sure. She has a mild underlying health condition so still might not be possible.
