I buy mine at world market. I toss it on pita wedges tossed in olive oil and bake to make my own homemade pita chips. Yum.

I got some online from The Spice Way. It’s made from Hyssop.

It should have sumac in it. It provides a lemony like kick to the delightful spices.

Like PPs said - definitely don't buy it at Giant or Safeway or MOMs. Not the authentic Middle Eastern blend you'll get at a restaurant or by traveling to the Levant.

Support a local shop or order online and make sure you check the ingredients closely.

Consider supporting a local store:

This. You can basically make a Zatar sandwich: pita bread or regular buns, plenty of good quality olive oil and then generously add zaatar. You can also add labneh to it. Now you got the pbj equivalent of many middle eastern children.

You can add it to crescents or make mini pizza (olive oil and zaatar).

Or just use as you’d use oregano in salads etc.

A lot of the za'atar sold in places like Safeway, WF, etc isn't really za'atar - it's just thyme and oregano. Za'atar is actually hyssop, usually blended with sumac and sesame seeds. You'll probably find a better version online - look on amazon, something like this looks good https://www.amazon.com/Spice-Way-substitute-Additives-Perservatives/dp/B01NATQXT3

It’s a spice blend of mostly oregano and thyme.

I've seen it at safeway.

I use it to top blinis with some olive oil.
