NP here. The poster you're responding to is correct. My dad's side was Jewish and came over from Russia. Russian government and people were VERY clear to them that they were NOT Russian. Lots of persecution, etc. Jews were continuously kicked out of countries, so just because someone might have come from Russia doesn't mean that their lineage is Russian.

It's not at all the same as being American. My dad's side has lots of military and are very patriotic Americans, because we can be.

It's true that things got easier after Stalin. But the Jewish population in the former USSR was always persecuted. Your nationality on all your paperwork was listed as "Jewish", not "Ukrainian" or whatever - your passport, your birth certificate, your school report card, your library card - it was basically to make sure people could identify you as "other". There were official quotas as to how many Jewish people were allowed into universities each year. Casual discrimination was extremely common - people could fire you, insult you, give you lower grades, even assault you, and there would be zero consequences. I remember as a kid being horrified if people found out I was Jewish - I did not have the "typical" Jewish appearance or last name, and you just never knew how someone would treat you if they knew.

I've always liked them both and think that they have a genuine relationship with each other.

They are involved parents and the homeschooling thing with their kids doesn't surprise me at all. Doesn't Ashton hold a degree in Engineering?

I'm glad that these two seem to have their priorities straight. I think they're the real deal which is a refreshing change from the fluff and nonsense that comprise a lot of Hollywood relationships these days.

I think that is her compensating for her accent. I’ve worked with a number of people over the years that are from Russia or other Eastern Bloc countries and they either had a minimal accent or sounded similar to her. Also, she moved to the US at 7 and learned English here. Not surprising she doesn’t have a Ukranian accent.

OP here. Oh, I'm not surprised that she's free of a Russian accent. I would have just assumed she'd have the bland non-accent most people from LA Have. So I wondered how she wound up with a very distinct NY accent.

He is so painfully unfunny and obnoxious and full of himself. She is a mean-girl bore who isn't attractive without makeup.

I think they sound like a typical couple talking together. Also, Ashton is supposedly really smart, I think that came up that time when he was on the Jimmy Fallon show and he did hide and seek with BTS (which was seriously funny).

But, not about his saying like, like, like, like and being the teacher! Note to op, when you see a woman think how can I prop her up and make the sister feel good. Second note, do not try to find a tiniest issue with a woman to bring her down while thinking a MAN should be irritated if he is interrupted!
