I homeschooled my daughter for a year for various reasons and you do not have to “enroll in a program.” You write a letter of intent to the superintendent, provide a copy of your high school or college diploma, and go on your merry way. You are required to submit proof of progress at the end of the year. Many people do this by paying for an online test similar to the SOL.

This. It’s shocking to me how many people think they can just not show up at their job or not send their kid into school and there will be no consequences.

Quit your job and homeschool your kid if you’re that concerned. That’s really the only option.

Literally no one said they will "just not show up" obviously my question is about what people will do within the law.

I'm the OP and of course my question is not whether people plan to violate the law. Resourceful DCUMers are perfectly capable of clearing the regulatory hurdles.

+1. And I highly doubt the truant officer is going to be working overtime in the middle of a pandemic. But yes I’m capable of filling out a form. I’ll have to do that anyway if we are distance learning because our school is phoning it in.

Absolutely. No hesitation. Can't even envision a fall with no school. I have to work and DC can't take this unstructured time.

The kids are going to be okay. The risk is not to them. I am high risk but no doubts on them going to school.

Other answers would be people who could homeschool anyway - that is not my life.
