Think you are overthinking things. Buy a $25 gift card to Amazon and a hard book. Put it in a nice gift bag with a card and you are done.
I would be hesitant buying things like diapers, wipes, bath products, and lotion sets because some babies have really sensitive skin and parents can be brand loyal or have certain preferences.
If it is a gift for somebody you are closer with, I would potentially reach out and say that you realize they probably have almost everything they need, and that you’d really love to do is give a practical gift you know will get used and is needed — then ask for the brand, type and size diapers they need for the baby. Done and done.

A book that has nothing to do with babies unless it is the one by Rivka Galchen. Mother gifts seem nicest to me -- flowers or chocolates. Pottery Barn blanket or quilt if it must be for the baby.

I would say yes to books. My go to gift for second or third kids for me is 3-5 nice hardcover books. Plus I gift card for Amazon or honest company. But you have that covered.

I agree. I use cloth diapers, but I still appreciate the disposables I was given. Even if your coworker uses cloth, disposables come in handy for travel, emergencies, after certain vaccines, etc.
