Subject: Would you ever select wood cabinets in a new kitchen reno?
I love the picture. That said I am replacing my 90s maple cabinets (glazed to a pinky-orange tone) and decided to go with white. My kitchen is small though, and I felt like the extra lightness was important.

White is classic always but can look dated based on style and hardware. The problem with wood is that different stains are popular at different times, so the "wrong" stain can look incredibly dated when you're trying to sell. Basically, you're not going to win the HGTV fad of the day game, so pick what works for your lifestyle during the time you are living in YOUR house.

The pictures both have white cabinets as well.
To me that blonde wood tone still reads California and I would worry especially with the new black window that it might look dated. Are you doing the whole house? A coherent whole house renovation might look dated too, but at least it will be consistent. If you’re only doing the kitchen imo you have to be a lot more careful about matching the rest of the house.
We’ve all seen colonials around here with a 90’s bump out kitchen/family room in the back where they went with the post-modern windows and the trendy kitchen and the older it gets, the worse it looks and the more like a Franken-house.

My two cents. The pictures are beautiful, Op, but I think the wood will look dated in short order because wood tones change so frequently. This is why I would go with classic white cabinets (timeless) and incorporate wood elements in a smaller way so less expense to switch out if it starts to look dated (for example, a couple of wood shelves instead of an upper cabinet).

We have maple cabinets and they're beautiful. We wanted the lightest looking wood and maple fits the bill.

Our designer suggested wood cabinets, but I couldn't get my DH on board. I like OPs pictures with both wood and white cabinets. It's not too much of either.
I think you just have to be more careful with wood cabinets because you can easily fall into grandma territory, but modern styles are beautiful. Also be careful that wood cabinets on wood floors can easily go the log cabin route

White will = cheap in a few years. Those basic very no frill looks will stand out as the cheapest look. But all kitchens look dated in 15 years.
