How is Herndon as a club? Don't hear much about them.


Depends on the team. Some are very, very good and others mediocre.


The Herndon teams coached by Total Futbol are good. Good coaches at the HS ages. Look at their website and/or Total Futbol's website and you'll be able to tell. Nadir, Tina, Matt, Ricky - they all do a nice job.

FCV would be my recommendation. Not sure what age group you are in but their 05 and 04 united teams are pretty strong. They practice at Evergreen.

Their coaches are excellent.

Based on those choices for a HS age girl looking for a positive environment away from ex-DA and ECNL madness, Barca and Great Falls have strong teams with great coaches and development and support playing HS soccer.

I think both Clubs have solid A teams already, so they're probably not looking to add many players to their rosters. But since she's in HS, I would send the TD an email with her soccer CV attached. I would add a couple of videos as well, that's what SYC says to do for college recruit but I think it would work for HS level at the club as well!


I hate to say you are wrong but my kid plays for one of those two teams and slots for a quality starter are definitely available. The team is a good quality squad but always can use a strong player and I am talking as a starter not as a bench add on.


You are right, I was just thinking of the team as a whole, but yes, a strong player and a started would have a big chance for a slot, that's why I suggested a little more than just a quick email to OP given her daughter's abilities!

Depends where you live. BRYC/McLean/Loudoun/VDA your top destination but unless your child is top in the region, playing time is scarce. Arlington will still be a good club if you’re close.

Outside ECNL and further away from Arlington, SYC and Alexandria have been excellent. They develop great players, have large player pools, and have good facilities. They do compete. SYA is a good choice, and if you’re out near Herndon that’s also a good pick.

I’d recommend avoiding smaller clubs. Small player pool, will have less resources.

I thing the suggestion of a soccer CV and video is a bit overkill. make a call, discuss your interest and you'll be invited to train with the team when the team hits the field again. Show well at that training session and that is all you need.
