The harm is fast fashion and waste. DD might one day look at all the stuff and realize she is big part of the problem. Kids are usually cute. They don't need dressing up constantly. Doesn't add attention to them; the attention is going to be on the garment.

What a nauseating post. Your daughter doesn’t care, so therefore you spend a ton of money dressing her up? She’s not a doll. She’s a child. Get a hobby OP.

I have 2 boys and a girl. I would love to spend more on the girl. All 3 of my children hate dressing up.

My daughter refuses to wear dresses. She likes to wear shirts with characters. She does have a lot of fancy dresses that my friends gave me that are hand me downs so it may look like I have spent a lot.

+1, Sounds like you spend a lot on clothing. I buy UA, Adidas and Nike only on major clearance so I'm not spending a lot but could easily spend $300 not on clearance.

If you can afford it, go ahead but it may catch up to you later.

My daughter has more clothes than her brother because a) she has more “categories” of clothes— dresses and shorts, for example, and b) she wears a lot of her brother’s hand-me-downs. But I don’t think there’s a big difference in money spent per kid. I buy almost all of their clothes at thrift stores or on clearance. No way am I spending 100s of dollars at a time on kids’ clothes.

As others have said, stuff like this usually evens out over time. And I doubt kids know how much their clothes cost anyway.

My boy has enough shirt/shorts/pants/underwear etc for 2 weeks. And I try my best not to buy too many girl clothing even though she has enough pass down. I buy a bunch of hair accessories, some cute dress/skirt & some cute print shirts. She is only 2, but I can't help but to dress her up. She wear a lot of her brother shirt, jacket, shoe, and pants.

My SIL only has one child (a girl), and her DD wears a lot of passdown from other people. Her daughter is 4, but she wears sneakers with hole on it, and shirt that is obviously been washed many times. They make more money than us, probably $300k. And SIL dresses herself really nice with Lv bag. I try not to be judgemental, but I can't help but think that they are so cheap in dressing their only child. She wears that pair of sneakers with hole on them more than 1 year, and they don't see anything wrong with it. She goes to daycare, and wears that everyday.

I have all boys. They only have one pair of shoes usually - sneakers. (Plus snow boots in winter and sandals in summer.). Sneakers on a girl in a dress or skirt would look weird so it makes sense to me that girls need more shoes. Similar for other clothes - there is just more variety for girls clothes so they don’t all mix and match like boys.

It is good to think about but I say you are fine to spend more on the girl clothing. Within reason, and assuming the boys have what they need, which all seems like it’s happening.

I think the harm is in reinforcing that superficial appearance is what is important for your daughter. The idea that she has to look a certain way that costs a lot of money and that her clothing is important isn't a philosophy that I agree with.
