Definitely a reason not to choose a school

Yes, the boys basketball team won the PVAC and the girls made it to the finals. My DD is thriving at the Upper School. ADHD with some quirkiness that made public a nightmare. McLean School has been truly transformational for her and is great for bright kids with mild learning differences. Lots of supportive teachers and counselors. Even the cool kids are accepting of kids with differences.

Kid is currently in upper school.

Pros:

Supportive teachers who actually understand things like EF challenges and help kids build on their strengths

Genuine focus on student well being, health, building confidence and autonomy, helping kids succeed in college and life

Small classes; kids can’t skate by with low effort

Really strong head of upper school

Strong but humble head of school

Good and real distance learning program with high expectations

Honors classes for kids who want or need extra challenge

Cons:

Cost

Location (not a con for everyone)

Some teachers seem less organized than others but every one of them we’ve interacted with is supportive and kind

DS has ADHD but no learning issues and seems to be very smart despite his ADHD executive functioning issues. Would a school such such as McLean be good for him in middle school to help with executive functioning issues such as prioritization, planning, self monitoring? As he gets older and school work gets harder he won't be able to get by on his sheer smarts due to some real executive functioning deficits.

Oh, PP...

I had two kids go to MS at McLean. It was good for one and not for the other. I would not have sent them there if they did not have learning needs. Unless it is a family that wants to keep siblings together in the early years, it is not sensible to send if your child has no learning needs. Who would want to spend that money?

You wish.

LOL. What are you, like 13 years old? Your parents should be doing a better job of monitoring your screen time.

If you were a good parent, you wouldn't waste tour money by sending your kid there.

Because...?

Is it not obvious to you? It is to everyone else.

We did the tour and found the teachers to be unimpressive- not particularly sophisticated academically. But we liked the warmth of the environment.

The academics are not amazing, but it’s a nice school for kids who need small classes and more attentive teachers.

Because some people are looking for schools that are the best fit for their children, rather than prestige. A shocking concept for you, I know.
