I don’t get the people who are in denial about this. My mom is super active and fit. She looks great and I aspire to be like her when I’m her age. She’s still not young. In fact, I’m getting close to middle aged! It’s not an insult, it’s just a fact.

Also, if you’re 50 and your child has a child, you’re a grandmother. Anyone who sees the 3 of you together will think that, no matter what creative name you pick out for yourself.

If my mom insisted on some cutesy name I would just refer to her as “your grandmother” when talking to my kid. If she can get the kid to call her Kiki Mimi Nom Nom whatever good for her. And I would keep calling her mom to her face. My husband would continue to use her first name.

I don't know why every grandparent needs a different name. I grew up calling both sets - Grandma and Grandpa. If anyone got confused, you'd say "Grandma Marie" or whatever.
