OOS full tuition. I think the schools need to make up for the large numbers of international students who won't be able to come to campus this year. They need the full pay revenue. Very unlikely that international students will be able to come to the US. First, the consulates are closed around the world and no visas are being processed. Second, I know of at least one large state school that is not allowing new international students on campus. They can either defer, or do on-line the first year. My source is a relative who is a professor at the university.

There are probably a lot of OOS students who will also turn down schools like UCLA to go to less expensive schools. Luckily we only have one kid and we saved for 18 years so they can go to school wherever they want, debt free.

Well that's a big financial difference... but Cornell CS is top notch, and very, very rigorous. If he has ambitions to work for one of the big guys out of college this is a great place to start.

However a CS degree from a fine school like VT will be all that is needed. It's really about where he will thrive and what you can afford.

Come Sci at VT is in the Engr school.
There are 2 CS tracks at Cornell - one in Engr and other in arts/sciences school, where student has options for more humanities classes and double major or minors. Employers don’t really care, as the major CS classes are the same. Grads still get recruited from top firms. Out of 300 CS grads they place 10 each at the 5 -6 coveted firms

Yes my DD who got off the waitlist at Barnard is full pay. Was first choice. My other kid is WL at Cornell but don’t think they consider full pay because Ivy League colleges have money. Also, WL at Georgetown and Pomona. Hoping he gets in to one. Going to a top 15 SLAC with merit. Gladly, will pay full boat for other three though.

Son got off Cornell wait list last week. Surprised in that deposits are not due yet. Cornell vs VT (in state) comp sci anyone?

Yep was on a call last night with the dean via Zoom and they are going through options. Kid loves it. And we were ready to go to W&M for half price.

Barnard is awesome. Let’s all pray we get through this and schools can reopen in the fall. Even an October or November start is better than online.

Options were what you would think...not rocket science. Start later, Start on campus and go remote, full remote, etc.
