Good lord. You just tell your kid that you are now working from home and nanny will be taking care if him until your work is finished! You stay in your "office" until it is time for nanny to go home.

OP, if you find a nanny you trust who is open to it, you might also consider letting them watch your child at their home - kind of like an in-home daycare, but with only your child. I've been working remotely for a year now, so long before all this started, and we did get into a good routine pretty quickly with WFH while our nanny was also there, similar to the situation 21.57 (on 4/25) described. It really is entirely possible to do. My kid can see into my office from the kitchen so I was never able to hide, but we all got into the routine after a couple weeks and was no longer upsetting to anyone.

Anyway, a couple months ago our nanny asked if we'd be open to her taking DC to her place during the day, in part because she used to be a preschool teacher and has a ton of arts/crafts/kid's toys there. It's working out really well for all of us. She can get things done at her own home while DC naps, DC gets a change of scenery and a new yard to play in which especially right now is nice since otherwise we're all at home all the time, and it's easy for us since we don't even have to do drop-off and pick-up; they start and end the day with breakfast/dinner here in our home. So, just offering that as another possibility.

I have always worked from home with my child and nanny. It works great if you have the right nanny. Before COVID, our nanny took him out every morning and every afternoon - Library, story-time, music class, play dates in the morning and to the play ground every afternoon where she set up playgroups with other nannies and parents. Since everything is closed, nanny still gets him out for two hours every morning to play in the park. But even with both home all afternoon it still works for us since she engages him in play and reads him tons of books.

We got amazingly lucky with the best nanny. I love her company too!

Not the parks (not playgrounds - just nature parks) where I live.

Depending on your house layout OP you could pretend to leave every day, and then sneak in a different door and work in a room with a door closed.

Not OP but playgrounds are closed, parks are not. At 3 they enjoy collecting sticks, rocks and just putzing around.
Heck, my kids 7 and now finds trees to climb every single time we go for a walk in a park

Ditto, it works well for us. We have an active, engaging nanny. As well as our own quiet spaces to WFH away from each other and them I hope WFH will continue for a long time honestly!

I had a phase where I pretended to leave, snuck back in the house when they'd go for a walk, and then hole up in my office all day (see mini fridge advice upthread).
