The best part? They are releasing quarantined homeless people after only one week in the hotel, if they are positive and have no symptoms. Whose brilliant idea is that?

Please stop linking to Popville. The information provided in this post is incorrect, as is the information in many of his posts because he's far too lazy to fact-check.

This was posted on Reddit and was deleted within minutes.

I think it is a good thing that DC is housing the ill and vulnerable. However, if the staff is not well trained in infection control techique, a basic, how can we be assured that the residents are getting appropriate care? What is the supervision if a worker in PPE is going into fast food restaurants?

Evaluating patients on the sidewalk? Does the hotel not have a lobby?

So if it is possible, even scarier than making a mistake or just being not knowing how to run one of these shelters, they actually don't know about it.

This is rapidly going from dumpsters overflowing to a total dumpster fire.

This isn’t a huge city. If DC is running or has contracted for pop-up coronavirus sites for symptomatic people, she sure as heck should have known about this and other sites around the District.

Listening to it now. She is feigning amazement.

I wonder how she explains keeping the Council in the dark. Disturbing and pathetic.

It’s hard for her to project her usual empty platitudes about this.

This whole thing is a dumpster fire for which Mayor Bowser is responsible. The only thing that would be worse would be if the overflowing dumpsters in fact were on fire.

I am GUESSING that the hotel was contracted as well as an outside firm to run the COVID shelter. At that point, typical DC Govt SOP is to pay the contract and wash their hands of it. You would have hoped that with something as high visibility as this that there would have been a few DC Health and Human Services visits and maybe a daily virtual 'hot wash'.

From the two minutes of video footage is apparent that there is LOTS of great intent, without policy and practices to turn that intent into an effective technique for managing a quarantine site.

Hey, look at the bright side. DC EMS was certainly following their policy's. At the end of the day, that aborted run cost money and sapped readiness, but it was executed properly and the threat of further spread was reduced/eliminated in that one example.

Yep, and the 8 'new' shelters will be run just like this! What's super awesome, is I guess they can't move anyone into the ACTUAL ward 3 shelter since they ridiculously built if for families (supposedly) with shared bathrooms and no kitchen. This Mayor gotta go.

Because it is an empty hotel.

Empty before the quarantine started? I didn't realize that. Are they planning to close or remodel it?

I would be surprised if it re-opens as a commercial hotel. Best guess is that the property owners have dreams of developing the site into vibrant, urbanist, upscale dense mixed use.

The mayor believes that it is fair, equitable and inclusive to spread the burden around all of the wards.
