And I’m guessing all chat/video/audio is on lockdown for a long while. I miss my students and was looking forward to hearing them tomorrow!

That’s a great idea. Make everyone log into a system that has crashed the last two days. Brilliant!

We can't have nice things.

Blackboard was down again this morning. Maybe it'll be up tomorrow?

Mics off=better sound quality; no 'feeback' noise from the mics, and no hearing every single background sound in everyone's home.

Chat off=no spamming the chat and no ongoing commentary when students should be listening to the lesson

There's a feature that allows them to 'raise their hand' if they have questions. When called on, they can unmute their mics and respond.

I'd love to have mics and cameras on, but I also don't want to be called a "F*ing B" or see someone pull their pants down.

I absolutely understand that- it wasn’t a criticism, it was a legit question. Why not have teachers record videos instead?

The delay is absolutely warranted after the behavior that high school students displayed today. The late notice was because of late meetings and making sure they could get more security measures into place.

Everything gets bumped two hours, per our school board member. A class at 10 gets moved to 12. Office hours at 9 moves to 11, etc.

Lotta good that'll do. They'll record disgusting and derogatory comments and porn uploads. Great. How about tracking the demented souls down and dealing with them appropriately.

Those kids have been home with their parents a whole month. You'd think they'd be overflowing with family values right now. Like, what the hell?! They're at home acting like complete cretins. I only wish you could see some of the comments and names I saw.

Lol

It already is at the middle and high school levels. The problem is that people signed in with false and derogatory names. Also, what are we supposed to do? Suspend them. The county should have anticipated this like teachers asked them to.

When and how did teachers ask them to anticipate this?

The first thing we said when they showed us Blackboard Collaborate was "How do we assign them a log-in name?" This was all closely followed by "How do we ensure they are properly dressed on camera? How do we make sure they aren't cursing etc." We disabled every function, but we can't force them not to type derogatory terms as their name or give out their links to friends who overload the system.

Teachers are already recording classes in Blackboard Collaborate. So that won't do any good.

They need to install a tracking device. Although we're talking technology here. They can track down violators if they wanted to. Of course, they're treating this like school prankster stuff, but the behavior was literally criminal. You could be jailed for typing some of the vile, racist things I saw. Not to mention the sexual stuff.
