Keep the pink tile if it’s original.

This is what I would do as well. Or even go with a crisp white for the walls if you want to brighten it up and go the opposite from dark colors and embrace the pink. Painted bathroom tile usually doesn't look that good unless the tile is really messed up.

If the tile isn't broken, just deep clean it, and restore the tile. If you have to replace (and if it is not broken, don't fix it!), replace with black and white hex, or penny round. For a teenage boy, I would do white everything else (easy to bleach clean/looks crisp against the green). I guess it would be a mix of his style, your house style. Bathrooms get wet (and moldy) even without teenage boys, so I wouldn't do a cloth curtain that you need to remove and wash unless you can count on him to do it. Maybe a reproduction of a vintage travel poster for a place he likes or a vintage car from etsy that you can put in cheap IKEA wood frames.

I am thinking of painting bathroom tiles too. I have a very green old-fashioned bathroom. The tile work is very old but very well-done so I don’t want to rip it out and put in new tile. I can see working with pink but green is another story I can’t think of how to decorate with green tile (lots of it).

Also, painted bathroom tiles are terrible. I have never seen them look better than the tiles themselves.

I would kill for an original tile pink bathroom. Love the wallpaper idea or a great paint. Don't ruin the tile!

I know I am not answering your question, but first of all painted bathroom tile looks painted. But most importantly this color has a lot going for it and maybe the right combo of wall color etc has not hit you yet, in my mind its a treasure.

It’s always going to look like painted over tile. Not that hard to have it removed and retiled.

You can obviously pay to have the tile glazed, but you could also find a great wallpaper to make the tile work as is?

I agree with a poster above that said reglaze. They can come in and cover everything with a fine layer of urethane that basically looks like the surface of tile. It is more expensive than painting but looks a LOT better. It can almost pass as being the original bathroom tile and tub. Almost. Painting sounds like a terrible idea.
