My favorite anywhere for amenities, atmosphere, and quality of terrain: Verbier
Super cute: Grindelwald

I recently went to Park City and I was a bit underwhelmed. Feels like a tourist trap and skiing around rich peoples’ houses isn’t my idea of fun. The Canyons has good terrain but I’d never return.

I was just going to post this. DH and I felt like we were skiing tilted golf courses, basically. Bleh.

How much sunlight is there for skiing? Is it super cold? I read reviews that a lot of the terrain is often closed, is that right?

I've been to Aleyeska in the summer and wondered what it would be like in the winter. Beautiful location, for sure. Ski area looks a little small compared to big resorts out west, but size isn't everything. I loved the Aleyeska hotel- price was reasonable, grounds and setting are beautiful, and rooms were nice, but was underwhelmed by the food.

Tremblant is cute but not in an authentic way. It’s like a Disney version of a ski town. Very commercial and all focus is on looks, not substance (I.e. shops are chains and the food is not that great).

Banff is better than Tremblant but I preferred the meals I had in Breck and Steamboat.

Crested butte, park city and jackson hole are my three favorites in the US. I live in Denver now and ruled out breck, vail, beaver creek/Avon, keystone copper winter park etc. - I’ll buy in CB

We enjoyed staying in Interlaken and visiting the Swiss Alps.

Serious skiing - Jackson Hole

Partying - Park City

I love Steamboat as a town but didn't like the mountain. I thought it was over-groomed and that the group kids ski lessons weren't great. I also like Breck as a town but the mountain I find to be crowded (esp on weekends) and it takes too long to get to where I want to ski.

I agree with all the negative statements about Vail.

Anyone stayed in Ogden to ski Powder Mountain? Ogden looks cute but I have never been.

Telluride is my favorite that I've been to - hands down. Aspen, I would love if I was really rich

Vail is the absolute worst. It is not a town - it's a development sandwiched in between a highway and the mountain full of people who think they are rich and cool but have nothing on the folks who are really rich at Aspen or really cool.

I also love Breck.

Steamboat is meh. Love Durango though Purgatory isn't that great of a mountain.

Europe is a whole different story...love the ski towns there.

East Coast - Tremblant.

Vail isn’t a town. It’s a development.

Kind of like Chevy Chase, Reston, Columbia, Greenbelt? Developments can also be towns, hell Fedex field was originally the town of Raljohn with it’s own zip code.

Anonymous wrote:My favorite places to ski are the places with no town. That is how you select for the most serious skiers Plus after a day of skiing I prefer to eat in.

But as towns go, I do love Sun Valley/Ketchum.

I am not serious, just enjoyment but I love Kicking Horse, it is not much of a town at all, you are eating in but the skiing is really fun.

I cannot really think of a ski town I don't like though. They all get the job done. Some have a bit more going on culinary wise like Banff and Park City.

+1= I love Breckenridge- great town with lots of good restaurants. Not snooty at all and you can ski right into the town. I'm not looking for fancy fine dining when I go on ski trips. I just want to relax, eat good food and drink craft beer in an unpretentious restaurant. Other ski areas that I love for similar reasons are Steamboat and Park City.
