I love all of my throw pillows and layered bed set. I’m a really neat person as it is and having an aesthetically pleasing, well-made bed brings me joy. If it doesn’t to you, I wouldn’t do it. Interestingly enough, my husband has also come to really appreciate it and it’s equally as important to him to have the bed made (a feat because he barely had matching sheets when we met). I’m also a millennial, not a senior citizen.

+1 We have a duvet, a lightweight blanket folded at the foot of the bed for warmer nights, and 2 standard + one king sham pillow on each side of the bed. Honestly, the stuff we use is plenty of crap to keep on a bed. No bolsters, no non-functional decorative pillows, no extra blankets for a layered look.

I just got new bedding with lots of decorative pillows, and I literally just ordered a small chaise lounge for my room, mainly to have a place to put the pillows on at night.

So did my late MIL. Are you a senior citizen?

This is a genius idea that never occurred to me.

BTW, I found a great source for inexpensive bolsters (I think that's the word - long, round decorative pillows). It's called Cushion Source and you an specify a length and width. Join their email list and they email coupons every now and then.

So many of the pillows like that are hundreds. I wanted that pretty look without spending hundreds. I think they aren't practical, but they're a pretty touch when you have pretty simple bedding otherwise.

Yup. Have since HS. Didn’t realize it wasn’t common until my mid 20s.

We don't make ours unless we hare having people over. When it's made it has the duvet lying flat, with a fur throw across the bottom and the 4 pillows. I just recently bought an extra 4 decorative pillows (which I was SURE I never would/moving them all the time would be annoying). But they were so pretty and sparkly and only $5 each at a home stager's sale and when they are loaded on, the bed looks amazing and inviting. I have the room in my closet to tuck them away unless they are on the bed.

Yes! Me. I have something of a sheet addiction. My house is messy and my bedroom could use a good dusting but my bed is fancy. I agree with the tip about using too small pillow cases. I use decorative pillow covers (18x18) on my old down pillows and they make great regular sofa or bed pillows. I use a coordinating blanket on top of the bed for naps (at least that's the idea) and it does double duty of protecting the duvet/comforter from dirty feet. I have a pile of pillows (most go on the floor at night). Nothing changes the look of your bedroom as much as changing the duvet/comforter so I have a pretty big collection.

I tried, but it never looked right.

I bought a king sized bedspread for a queen bed. It came with pillow shams, but I don't even know where they are. I'm happy as long as the bed is made.

Our guest room with two twins look like the top picture, extra fluffy blankets at the foot with several pillows, most for sleeping but a couple of decorative.
Our beds are on a smaller scale. If we have company not suited for the twin beds, our boys move out of their rooms and take the twins and guests take their beds
