+1 If it's a good story and the R is because of language or sex/nudity, I don't have a problem with it. I don't like watching really violent movies. DH, however, will watch horror/thrillers with 15 yr old DD because she likes them but 16 yr old DS and I both don't like scary/violent movies.

I’m not the kids’ “best buddy”. They have great grades, normal relationships and friendships, and are respectful of me and my spouse and other people.

Just because they see something on TV or in a movie doesn’t mean they will be poisoned or start mimicking that behavior, in fact it off and provide a lesson for what not to do in life.

We have a good conversations about why it’s stupid to get 100,000 tattoos specially on your face, why it’s bad to do drugs because look, your teeth are falling out. Yes I have watched a few cringe moments during a movie especially about having sex. We don’t usually watch Quentin Tarantino movies either, because even though I like the plot sometimes the violence is insane.

But a lot of good stories that aren’t just superhero movies (which we also watch) are R rated, and have sex and violence or bad language in them. Until they start writing a LOT more of smart, funny or interesting G or PG movies, I’m not gonna be sitting there watching them with my family of teens.

I bust my ass parenting but I have a different philosophy than you. I simply don’t believe in censorship. I saw many R rated movies as a preteen and I don’t see any problem with it. I do not believe violence in film makes children violent and I do not believe sex in film makes children into sluts

You think there is too much talking and not enough action? True to a degree, but there is some good action scenes between all the dialog. And no nudity although some bad language.

I have a 15-year-old girl and I got totally burned by this attitude last week. I thought Election with Reese Witherspoon would be a great idea because it’s about high school, and it’s based on a novel by one of my favorite writers. Some of the content was super squirmy, including a scene where Matthew Broderick‘s character is actually watching straight up porn. Oops.
