Yes.
This happens because DC has no voting representation in the Senate.
(No chance DC or Maryland would ever agree to merge- a huge majority of DC voters voted for statehood.)
No Senators feel personally responsible to the 700,000 American citizens that live in the Senate.
That is the problem.
They have their own constituents.
And the Senate is a hugely important entity in our system.
We need DC Senators with DC constituents to stick up for DC residents in the Senate.

Deal?

You chose to live there and you continue to choose to live there. The best DC can hope for is retrocession by Maryland. Outside of that, you know you aren’t treated the same as a state and if you want that same treatment move to Maryland or DC. It’s as simple as that.
We are the Nation's Capital. Statehood or not, our city should not be treated worse than the rest of the country. The republican house and senate members us as their litter box. If all the residents of DC took your very helpful idea of moving to MD or VA, the poor congressmen would have no restaurants in which to hold their fundraisers with lobbyists and dry cleaners for their fancy suits and cleaners for their offices and pied a terres.
I’m not saying it’s right to shortchange DC. I’m simply saying you know that it has happened and will continue to happen. You can move so choosing to stay there is a self-inflicted wound.
Sure because we all KNEW the federal government we pay 36% of our income to would not care if we lived or died in a pandemic.
Give one good reason why the federal tax paying residents of this one city should not be a part of our nationwide relief from this pandemic.

DC is a Federal District. Get used to it FFS. We have plenty of restaurants and dry cleaners in MD and VA.
Want to live in a state, pick one. There's 50 to choose from.
