There is literally no expert that is telling people to stay entirely in their house. It is perfectly acceptable to go outdoors as long as you find somewhere that you can be away from people, which is what the OP is asking about.

Spent two hours walking in rcp today, north of military road. Will you see people? Yes. Is there any crowding? Absolutely not. And people are very respectful of space and distancing even on relatively narrow trails.

Peirce Mill area by 2pm is a whole different ballgame. It’s absolutely packed. The parking lot there was full and a whole separate row of cars were parked along the road.

PP again -- OMG, we were there today, and it was too busy. OP, what about a neighborhood walk on residential streets? We've been wandering around looking at gardens, and that is a nice distraction. Not so great if you have littles that need to run, though.

The paths are mostly empty in Northwest Branch. There are people but not nearly as many as in Rock Creek Park so easy to socially distance.

Beach drive should be closed all day every day, not just on weekends.

We went to one of the locks along the C&O Canal, not right at Great Falls. The parking lot was pretty full but the lot is also very tiny. On the trail itself, there were a few bikers and other walkers here and there, but generally pretty sparsely populated. That was yesterday afternoon. I imagine it gets a little busier on the weekend. It was still much much quieter than when we went around Peirce Mill last week around 4-5 pm. Agree if you go earlier things are generally less crowded.

Upper Rock Creek is pretty empty. Just park around St. John's or the neighborhood just north of it and head onto the trails there. I was there yesterday and there is a neighborhood garden spot I cam upon (by the stables) and there was a family out there letting the little ones just run. You can head tot he trails from there. Explore creeks and climb on trees.

Roosevelt island? Great falls park!

All parking lots are packed. The park is more crowded than I’ve ever seen it. Groups everywhere. It’s like this is just a vacation not an epidemic. One person posted on social media they had a mild case and went to the park.

They need to at least close the parking lots. Do something to lessen the crowds.
