Oh and Alexandrians think the illegals “enrich our community in every way.” It is suicidal empathy on overdrive. Schools are failed. Crime is up. And everyone is combined by the need to uphold progressive bona fides this really special community will implode from within. My house will be on the market soon, but as you can see, I’m just angry because it does not have to be this way.

This is actually not true. The parking situation is horrific and Alexandria refuses to enforce laws. During COVID they removed commercial vehicle parking restrictions. The new high rises have 100 fewer spaces than units. The criminals park in Beverley hills and go to Arlandria. No way of knowing who they are because their vehicles are fraudulently registered. We are up the hill and we have had many bikes stolen - happened just last night.

There is nothing wrong with deciding that Arlandria isn't right for you.

The poster is deciding that because Arlandria isn’t right for her that Beverly Hills, 1 mile away, is also not right for her.

Beverly Hills is full of million plus dollar homes. Please don't confuse it with Arlandria, very different places while only a few streets away. Beverly Hills is very safe.

I believe the carjackings were all at the mall, which is now closed due to the virus. Also, a suspect (from MD) was taken into custody. Outside of the mall, Pentagon City and surrounding area haven’t had a surge in crime.

Three car jackings in the last five days and were not near the mall. However, the sexual assault that occurred a few days ago was in the Crystal City underground shopping center.
Arlandria is not unsafe but unsavory. Lots of hispanic people live in the cheap apartments -- including the Lloyd Apartments at the end of Tennessee St. Most of the people work and are in bed at 9 pm because they have to be up at 5 am to get to their construction, service, and low scale labor jobs by 6 am.

What was it like living in old town? I’d love to live off of or on lee street/king street area.

OP here. I'd love to know that, too. I'm so accustomed to a townhouse in a community rather than having the front door right on Royal or North Washington St.

It’s truly amazing. I never use my car on weekends and also manage to bike or walk somewhere in the evenings year round. We’ve lived in various locations in the SE quadrant (I’m biased but it’s considered by many the best part of old town) for years, and crime is minimal. A babysitter left her purse in the passenger seat and the car was broken in to to take that, we had an unlocked bike stolen from next to our house, a package was stolen off our steps, etc, but it’s all minimal and contrary to the sky is falling posters on next door, it’s much safer than it was. 20 years ago, n old town was scary and upper king st (between route one and the metro) was awful. That said, you mention living on n Washington st? I wouldn’t do that just bc it’s a very busy street with loud buses.
