I've heard that recommendation but young people can have the virus and not even know it, either because it's in the incubation period or they have a strong immune system and the symptoms are mild. Therefore it would be passed throughout the group and then to all the parents etc.

Less than 10 is still going to contribute to the problem. It feels like that should have been something we were doing for the last 3 weeks. Now if we want to flatten we have to catch up. My 19 year old hangs with 9 friends, one is sick and now say 40 are sick bc they don't live together they live with their families. And they don't hang out with the same 10 every day. They might hang out in the requisite small groups but with 30-40 individuals over the course of day 1-5 whole all are still "healthy". Now it's 160.

You are wrong. Gatherings of 10 or less assuming everyone maintains a 6ft separation. Outside is better but you still need the separation.

Yes it is

It is still officially allowed but it is going to contribute to the problem.
The goal should be to flatten the curve and to do that you have to stay home and away from others so that asymptomatic folks and very mildly ill folks aren't spreading it around with those they spend time with and on the surfaces of the places they are spending time in.

All the places who are experiencing high spikes started with its okay to just reduce your socializing before realizing that was far from sufficient and putting stricter and stricter measures in place. Going to stricter measures sooner has shown to have an incredibly effect on flattening the curve.

No, it isn't. Just because your area has not instituted crackdowns on groups of any size, doesn't mean it's still OK.
Look at California and New York. They are, essentially, locked down. Yes, you can go out to the supermarket, pharmacy and for a run (by yourself), but groups of any size are banned, and no one can go to work unless they are an essential worker (health care, transportation, trash collection, etc.)
They did this because the projections about this disease in the US are DIRE. Italy is a catastrophe right now, and it's because they didn't lock down their country immediately after the first cases started appearing. We didn't either, and we're going to pay the price very soon.
Hospitals are already running out of equipment and supplies -- masks, gloves, etc. Ventilators will soon be in short supply.
This is a serious situation. That our POTUS and elected officials hid this information from us is their fault entirely, but now that the information is out there, we must heed it.

Yes, you are making a mistake, but good for you for asking. The more trustworthy experts, like Sanjay Gupta, say NO PLAYDATEs for many reasons:

1.) Asymptomatic carriers
2.) You are not just interacting with this child, but everyone she, her parents, their friends and coworkers, etc interacted with this past few weeks.
3.) The virus is airborne for some of the time. It's not just about coughs and sneezes. It's about the shared air you breathe with a carrier. This means washing your hands will not protect you.

It is beyond ignorant to label people crazy if you actually read about how these viruses work and how you stop the spread. Learn from what happened in Italy. It also irresponsible that any experts are still saying playdates are fine.

Do you want, but take the risk that you could very well get sick from your teen. First case I know directly is a 22yo. At American, 4 students have it, before any confirmed adult cases. The story about the 45 yo down south on a ventilator is very scary.
