We must see the Cherry blossoms! It's an annual tradition.

We got there at 7 AM on Friday for sunrise and only stayed less than 10 minutes because it was too crowded. It was very hard to stay away from people. I wouldn't go on the weekend.

We did a drive by of the tidal basin last night, and it was really crowded around 6 pm--definitely not 6 feet of distance between many groups.

We then went and picnicked a dinner at Gravely Point and watched the planes land and tossed a frisbee. There was plenty of room there to spread out.

I admit that we went to see blossoms yesterday at around 5:30pm and it was quite crowded and difficult to keep distance. Not nearly as crowded as normal, but definitely a lot of people, especially Gen Z-ers, aka 'vectors of disease.'

Outside of the Tidal Basin it was fine, but as you got closer there were definitely crowds, especially at crosswalks. Once I saw that, we turned around and left.

No need to leave yours house.

Isolation kills.

So does coronavirus.

Not like isolation, FYI.

OP here. Alright then, if they're having to close the metro, doesn't sound like the tidal basin is a good idea. Any other off the beaten path suggestions would be appreciated! I'd love to be able to get out of the car and get my kid some fresh air, but only if we can keep a safe distance from others.

We went yesterday morning at 8am. Walked around the tidal basin. Very very few people were out. Just go in the early morning on a day with less than ideal weather (it was still cloudy and cold when we went).

Go early. I drove by yesterday afternoon and a lot of people are just doing the drive through. I think it will be crowded, traffic-wise, this weekend.

I’m the one who went out this morning at 7:30. Yesterday I went to prince William park, where there were hardly any people, but there were enough and the area was small that I did have to move out of the way so I could have six feet between us (and others did the same). There were more people at Haines point, but the area was much bigger, so it was just as easy to stay six feet away.

The rule is 6 feet away! If you so that you’re okay. And I do think that getting outside for a short period of time is a need. It’s not a trip to the movies or a party.
