Totally agree. All those who are saying that these people shouldn't get a nanny - would you also be OK with not having the police be able to respond if someone tried to break into your house? Would you be ok with if there was a water main burst outside your house and no one to come fix it? There aren't enough childless people to provide coverage for all of these services during this time. Stop guilting people and just be thankful that you can sit on your butt at home while others are out there providing us with these essential services.

Hazard pay should be for people experiencing hazards doing their jobs. UN definition:
Hazard pay is a form of compensation granted to staff members who have been requested to remain and report for work in duty stations where very hazardous conditions, such as war or active hostilities, prevailed and where the evacuation of families and nonessential staff had taken place.

I don't think your babysitter's job meets this definition.

17 is old enough to baby sit but it isn't old enough to make major health decisions. I was referring to op and her DH to take vacation. Your children are your responsibility. The rest of the world owes you nothing

The price of social distancing. $10 for one child $15 for two but one is in school. Frankly I'm lucky I have a job to go to tomorrow as worried as I am about that but price gauging for childcare???? Seriously?

I think $20 an hour is fine OP. We are in Police fields too and pay our sitter $15 an hour. Will be paying the same the next couple of weeks too ( or longer)

staff the facility

They can't get anyone local to staff it.
