This. I’m not allowing visitors during this period. It’s common sense. State your rules and don’t apologize. If the mom acts weird after this, you don’t want her as a friend anyway.


You need to tell the neighbors, you’re not allowing play dates. That’s it. No explanations beyond no play dates. You can text the mom once. If her kids knock on your door, tell them clearly “No more play dates, do not knock again.”

Apologize and tell her you wish it were different, but you're just not comfortable having her kids over at your house right now. I don't think you'll be the only one saying/doing so.
