In Maryland, there’s a policy that if there’s a state of emergency in place, the governor can waive the makeup requirement if schools close. (I think VA has the same policy?)

That’s likely at least part of the reason MCPS is waiting for a directive from above before they close. A unilateral decision might tick off Hogan enough that he’d insist they make up those days.

And you won't be, because most DC area camps are full by January. My kid's camp was fully booked by November. Current waitlist for 12 year old boys is 75 kids long.

Are you saying people never get sick in the spring or summer? that's a big LOL. I live in CA where it's typically 72+ and we pick up viruses just like everyone else.

Camps are all registered and most of them have the required 50% down payment in. I'm hoping/assuming that we will be back to life as normal by late June so am not cancelling anything.

I could still take out cancel for any reason insurance on our main camp. I'm debating doing that. I think it's $160 bucks on a $2500 bill.

I don't need camps for childcare in the summer, so I have definitely held off on signing DD up for camps that she enjoys because of the reasonable chance that they will be cancelled. I figure it is easier to sign up later for things because many other people will be holding off too.

Lol, same—both sleep away and day camps were booked then before they fill up. We have to work so fingers crossed for the best this summer.

This exactly. We need summer childcare. I need to operate as though the future will be a return to normalcy. If it isn’t, we’ll deal with it. If this blows over and everything is fine by June I’ll be happy that my kid got to go to her summer camp of choice and my husband and I can keep our jobs.

We've already signed up for camps and figure it's the same as going to school. Obviously we will make the call when the time comes, but we're risking the money because we need full time childcare through summer.

I hope you are right, but why? It's in all sorts of warm-weather countries right now. Is it because viruses wax and wane? I don't understand people's confidence about this particular point.
