I also think it will be prettier. Very long hair weights you down and in most cases it's not the best quality once it passes shoulder blades length.

I found long hair that I can tie into a knot without a hair tie way easier than shoulder length hair.

Hair to your hips is like a security blanket. Cut it shouldering length. People are going to tell you how much younger you look.

I could understand if you were going for a pixie or a buzz cut but shoulder length is really no big deal. I think he’s being unreasonable. I’m sure you would still get something cute and modern; he’s probably just worried you’ll get a total mom cut.

OP if you have had long hair for a long time it is worth a consult to see what length and what cuts work for you hair.

For me to have my hair shoulder length, I need a stylish cut that takes work to maintain. A simple cut at the shoulders doesn't work for my hair.

Whereas at shoulder blade length a simple cut that takes no time or effort to maintain works great.

Different hair types act differently at different lengths. If you have curls or very fine hair or very thick hair, you really need to know what will work for your hair and you also have to decide who much time, money and products you want to put into making it look good. Do you want to have to style it daily?

All things to talk to your hairdresser about. And make sure to go to someone who is good with your type of hair.

+1, a bit longer than shoulder is nicer to pull it up

To be honest I am a bit nervous about cutting it, but it really is becoming too much. I like the gradual cutting suggestions.

To the other pps yes it is my hair and ultimately my decision, but I like to take his opinion into account.

Hip length is a bit much to care for. Do slightly past the shoulder blades to start and see how you like it and then if you want shorter slightly past the shoulder. Past the shoulder blades is a good length to care for. Anything more gets very hard. Plus, it will help getting some of the dead ends off and make it a bit healthier.

Honestly, I think it is normal to feel a bit sad when your partner wants to change something about themselves that you love. It doesn't mean that you control their decision but it is a big change and it takes time to adapt if it has been that way a long time.

If my husband wanted long hair and a man bun or dreads or a long beard I would probably feel the same way as Ops husband does. I love his clean shaven face and his wavy hair and it would be an adjustment to have a husband with a long beard or dreads but it wouldn't be my decision to make.
