None of my kids were crawling at 8 months. And even after learning to walk they all happily snuggled in the carrier if we weren’t at home. YMMV.

Seriously to the two PP’s...what kind of people are you? Snobby, uptight? It’s a party at a family home. Bring the damn baby. If you want to ask, ask. But if someone told me my 8 month old wouldn’t be welcome, I probably would think twice about going. And for the PP who said the 4 year old was invited, not the parent, 4 years old isn’t drop off age - of course they expect the parent(s) to come.
