The dude who started that branch could not multiply or divide, and he was entrusted to tutor math. There's no pedagogy or successful- proven methods, just worksheets.
We had tried out the one in Fairfax corner. My child is in advanced math and his teacher considers him the most diligent child in class.
I entrusted them by paying $275 a month and sending my child about three times a week. There was a lot of traffic of children and parents coming in and out. The owners, sure, had a great profile with pictures posted in the front. The manager of this branch was also very engaging. It had been over five months. When a standardized test came along, we saw very poor results. I called up the owner as she is very personable and constantly reassured me in the past four months of preparation that my child would do really well. When I asked for all the practice tests and their results after we got the actual scores back, they were not able to provide them. All I got was a lot of acting, topics assigned, but really no score tracking.
The outcome of these places really need to be measured- try a standardized test that the child has to take, prepare with them, only then do you really know whether they are performing at a level that you ENTRUST them with.
I am a very involved parents and constantly had been checking in with the owners. At the end of the day, we don’t know if the person putting papers into your child’s binder screwed up, along with the fake speech that your child will be just fine and will do really well was the culprit. I am not sure what I couldve done to prevent this, but I guess checking the binder every single day?! I feel we were a case of parents who entrusted a company to perform, at bare minimum, what they said they do; and had a very failed outcome. I would’ve rather just timed my kid at home and done practice workbooks bought off of Amazon- a strategy that helped my friend’s son ace the IOWA.
