Subject: Middle schools

+1. Everyone is drinking the koolaid until it's time to send their own kid. People want to see how the school is doing now, not what it could be if lots of UMC parents one day send their kids there and advocate until it's another Deal and Coolidge becomes another Wilson. That takes too long for people with kids a few years away from MS.
Not to mention people whose lottery applications are due in 11 hours.

It isn't being skeptical to want to hear from parents whose children are enrolled now, opposed to parents who aren't there yet. And btw I have donated, both to Wells, Whittier and Takoma because I am a neighbor. My own children are in high school now.

I wish you were the norm in your support and your comments but my guess is you are not. perhaps I'm too sensitive -- in other threads people have really pushed back at families considering Wells or those who recommend looking at it because it's untested and they are openly skeptical about its possibility for success. I think the often negative tone of these threads makes me feel like every comment is a negative one on this site.
My point that some people are really skeptical that kids can get a good education outside of the Wilson feeder does still stand, and it's tiresome.
Take the long view. Change is hard. I've been at this in DC since 2004.
I've been at it a long time too. That's what makes it annoying that so many are still so dug into the idea that quality can only exist WOTP. I think pointing out the skepticism about Wells is a good example of this.
DP here. It has nothing to do with the idea that quality can only exist WOTP. The difference is that Deal and Wilson are considered good schools NOW by many UMC families, and Wells and Coolidge aren't there yet. It takes a long time to turn around middle and high schools (if it even happens) and you're willfully ignoring this in favor of hopes and platitudes.

BASIS isn't a long shot for 5th grade - they took more than 3/4 of the students who applied by the middle of Sept last year. It's a lot harder to get into Hardy or SH OOB for 6th than BASIS for 6th, and DCI for 6th if your child isn't in an immersion charter.
Stop inserting logic and actual data into the discussion, please. The idea here is to ignore the significant changes over the last 5-7 years and just live in the past.
