Another thing to keep in mind...everyone will tell you that they will be "best friends" being so close in age. That's nice if they are but don't expect that to be the case. Mine were OK playmates when they were little but would never be each other's first choice and now as teens they mostly ignore each other. I guess that's better than fighting like some close siblings do. They are just very different kids - boy/girl, one very extroverted and the other introverted. Always had different interests.


this has been my experience as well.
it makes me sad, we used to have a great time together!

For me, it got much easier when the younger one hit six months. She could sit and play independently and began to interact with her older sibling, and I once again had a little bit of freedom back.

14 months apart here. they are now 13 and 14. After the baby stuff is over its pretty fun.
they were honestly easier then....

Take lots of pictures and videos. You will forget exactly how little they were.

And good luck. It will be a hard few years, but I agree, after that it will be awesome.

I had two 13 mos apart then a third two later (on purpose) so I loved it.

Also a single mom now- so lots of single moms with Irish twins. We must be too good in bed to stay married hahahahaha IM JOKING PEOPLE. It may mean ultra close spacing is hard on marriages.

Naps and regular, early bedtimes are key to happiness. Set up a strict sleep schedule and routine
Lower your expectations on everything
Take lots of pictures and videos
Accept any offers of help

Mine are 15 months apart! I have nothing to compare it to, but tbh i didn’t/don’t think it’s that hard. Possibly because my older one is more chill and easygoing. I love that they’re generally in the same life stage, can easily share a room, and enjoy the same activities. We got the diapers/bottles/stroller phase out of the way as quickly as possible and now we’re really enjoying our fun little preschoolers.

Will the oldest go to daycare? Do you have a nanny?

Irish twins are only 12 months apart usually. They don’t go up to 24 months apart! Lol.

Mine are 5 and 3 and while it's significantly easier than when they were younger, it's still really difficult with the 3YO. When one of us has the 5YO on his own, he's pretty much perfect. When one of us has the 3YO on his own, he's much easier but still a pain because he's 3 and stubborn. Together, they are a TON more work. The whining, constant comparisons and competitions -- I hate it.

Tips? You will get through it. There was a time when I couldn't imagine getting to the point where my youngest was 3.

I had two 16 months apart and they are still opposite gender best friends at 8 and 9. I think it did help that the older was a very easy baby and toddler.
