I liked having them close and in some ways it seemed easier than running around with a 3 yr old while having a newborn.
Another thing to keep in mind...everyone will tell you that they will be "best friends" being so close in age. That's nice if they are but don't expect that to be the case. Mine were OK playmates when they were little but would never be each other's first choice and now as teens they mostly ignore each other. I guess that's better than fighting like some close siblings do. They are just very different kids - boy/girl, one very extroverted and the other introverted. Always had different interests.
