I'm still having a hard time with my 4 year old (still whines, tantrums, acts like a jerk), but have to agree the elementary years seems magical!

We went through a really bad year in 3rd grade (8), with a large sibling age gap, but things are much better at 9. Lots of therapy. I hope things turn around for your kid too!

Adorable. My 5 also says “pack pack” and I grudgingly corrected him. But he doesn’t believe me ha! So I get a little while longer with “pack pack”. The best thing is that he has a dinosaur backpack and proudly shows off his dinosaur pack-pack.

Best to worst:
I have 2 high schoolers and 1 in college.
1. Elementary - sweet spot indeed! Happy, playful, engaging, doing lots together
2. Toddler - Busy (had 3 under 5) but still so much fun
3. College - They “get” stuff now. So enjoyable to be around! Can’t beat the toddler just because he’s gone!
4. Infant - Almost too sleep deprived to remember
5. Middle School - Friends turning bratty / bullying / drama
6. High School - Mental health issues surfacing / school pressure / driving / parties / college apps / so stressful

My kids are 11 and 14 and haven't hit the moodiness stage yet. Late bloomers. Fairly easy kids. I love that they are mostly self sufficient now, and we can leave the kids for a few hours while we run lots of errands without having to take them with us. We can go to the movies and not have to deal with a babysitter. This is the sweet spot for me right now.

Mine used to call goosebumps, Bruce bumps. She was a very clear talking child that didn't have very many kid-isms, and I cherished that one for a very long time.
For me, this is how it went:
Birth - a year old - 7th circle of hell. Needy, screamy, did not sleep, did not eat, long list of what the hell else could go wrong
1 year - 2 1/2 years old - 2nd circle of hell. Walks, talks, generally more entertaining. If she had slept better, and been sick less, it would've been easier
3-4 years old - Back to 7th circle of hell. Whoever called it 'Terrible Twos' got it terribly wrong. That was the Terrible Threes.
4-10 - Purgatory - heaven. Who is this child? She's amazing!!!
Totally true. I keep saying that 4 is the reward for 3 year olds. My 4 year old is the best. She was a raving nightmare at 3.

It makes me sad that they’re going to start pronouncing words correctly and grow up so fast. It’s adorable, they still have that baby innocence but you see their personality starting to shine through.

Enjoy the sweet spot. I'd say at least 4-14. Our teens were not intolerable by it's hard not to worry about the big decisions they make every day (friend groups, partying, driving, etc). College was less worry for me. Now, they're lovely young adults.
