Last evening, at approximately 4:55pm, a friend's 4-year-old daughter was violently attacked by a large man on her way home from school at Ludlow-Taylor. The attack happened on the corner of 9th/Maryland, where he snatched the sweet girl from her mother's grip and attempted to strangle her on the sidewalk. Several witnesses jumped in to help the mother pry him off (at one point there were 7 men trying to get this guy off of her; and a group of teens as well), and the family involved wanted to be sure that these kind people know how much they are appreciated. Fortunately, the little girl was released from the hospital with scrapes and bruises, but without their fast action this could have been far worse.

Thanks to the help of these bystanders (including two who jumped out of their cars to help,) the perpetrator WAS arrested and taken into custody. The family (and the police) ask that anyone who helped or even just witnessed this brutal attack give a statement to the First District Detectives Office at 202-299-2025 to fortify their case. I know the family is extremely appreciative of the police response, including above-and-beyond elements like bringing cupcakes to the hospital and promising to be present around the little girl's neighborhood to ensure she feels safe. The commander said that in 21 years, she's never seen this sort of attack on a small child. The perpetrator is apparently a Virginia resident, and was suspected to be high on an as yet unknown substance based on his almost superhuman strength.

Bring back St. Elizabeth's now. Sick people like this perpetrator need to be locked up, given whatever help (that won't work) and never allowed in society. This poor little girl is damaged for life, not to mention her family.

St. Elizabeth's still exists. A lot of the campus is in other use but the psych hospital is still there, pretty much falling apart.

He was covered in blood after jumping through the window, witnesses said.

Augustus, of Springfield, Virginia, jumped through a window of the Capitol Hill Pregnancy Center at 7th Street and Maryland Avenue NE shortly before 5 p.m., a police report says. The nonprofit had just closed, its director said.

When Augustus jumped, he fell into the basement of the building and spread blood everywhere, the director said. Blood spilled onto children's clothing and toys that were supposed to be donated to clients. Instead, they will be thrown out.

Two staff members were at the crisis pregnancy center at the time, the director said. They ran outside to escape.

Police say Augustus then left the building, ran two blocks east, to 9th Street NE, and put the girl in a "choke hold."

Side effects of CTE share a lot of common symptoms with both schizophrenia and bipolar: mood swings, manic depressive states, paranoia, memory loss, erratic behavior including aggression/violence, etc.

We may come to find out that he wasn't on any drugs at all.
