That's why you give a check or get a signed paper that you paid for the damage or pay the dealer directly.

The mirror was still attached to the car, but the glass plate had fallen off, as had the outer casing. I put those both on the windshield next to my note.

I don't think that should be that expensive. I would just pay cash. Thank you for doing the right thing and leaving a note.
