Because commuting from the farthest reaches of an upper NW home to a SE school to NoVA for work and back again leaves you with 4 hours on the office and four hours in traffic per day.

You can pay for ECE- just like everyone else
ECE in community centers was proposed by some during the last boundary change, and older people perceived it as a threat to other day time uses of community centers (which was ridiculous, as no one suggested the whole building be converted; though security will have to be addressed). I still see it as the best option for ECE where the elementary schools are too crowded to add classroom space.

Yes, search first. Second, own that the reason you come to these realizations is because you're frustrated because you aren't getting what you want...and you're not used to that.

As a parent of kids who have been in DCPS for 10 years and lurking on this board for longer than that, I find it funny how there are always these newbie parents who come on here year after year to spout off about how things should be, as if thousands of parents before them haven't already had the same realizations and made the same arguments. I think it should be income based and then slots for families over $80-180K can do it as a first round lottery and then those with higher incomes.

Where exactly is this happening? It’s not happening WOTP if that’s what you’re worried about. Everywhere else it’s funded.
