I had a SAHM until I was about 14. Most summers were two weeks of vacation to FL (one with my grandmother, one at Disney or something similar), four weeks of camp, and the rest of the time was spent hanging around the neighborhood with friends.

I had a SAHP. I played in the woods near our house, usually alone, sometimes with a friend. I don’t understand what we did for hours and hours in the woods at age 8.

As a teen is just drive around, go to movies, hang out.

I know I never did camps or activities. I asked my mom why I couldn't go to camp, and she said "camp is for people who don't like their kids"............

I don't know how I was able to hang out at home really, because both my parents worked outside the home from when I was 4 til I was 10. I know for at least part of that time my mom was doing night shifts, so maybe they were opposite shifts until I was 10? When I was 10, my dad "retired" from the military/was unemployed, so I guess he was our supervisor during summers after that. I also had two nearby grandmas so maybe I went over there a lot? Or maybe I just stayed home a lot by myself once I was an appropriate age? I really don't know. But like I said, there were no camps or activities involved.

Parents worked, grew up on the gulf coast in a small town. I guess my grandparents kept us when we were young. All I remember is the beach and pools and playing outside. I’m sure there was a little tv involved. Parents had flexible schedules. Mom was a teacher for a few years so she was home. Very carefree, great memories. If we went on vacation, it was RVing in Texas state parks.

No change in generations here. My parents worked and I went to YMCA camp. My husband and I work and our kids go to YMCA camp.

Same here. We took a 2 week vacation every summer to our mountain lake cabin and random weekends at the beach, but largely it was running free. By the time I was 12 my sister and I split a weekday, all day babysitting gig throughout the summer for a 5 kid family. Lol. Times they have a’ changed.

Two WOHP in MoCo. I went to day camp— usually something inexpensive like YMCA camp. Once I was 10+, I’d usually spend 1-2 weeks at a (usually inexpensive) overnight camp, too. 1 week with my grandparents in WV. 1 week vacation in Ocean City with my parents and eventually my much-younger brother.

My mom was a preschool teacher so she had summers off. We were bored, played outside with friends, went to swim team practice and then stayed at the pool all day, and did chores (particularly hated weeding our enormous sloped front yard hill, especially when it was hot in the NC sun).

My parents both worked. I went to the pool, played outside with neighborhood kids, watched tv and went to music camp (for just one week).

Mom was a SAHM. I went to the local rec center summer day camp for the entire summer. I never stayed home and did nothing all summer. I never played outside in the summers. We also did not do any summer vacations until I was in high school

When I was too old to be a camper I was a counselor in training at the day camp I attended from Kindergarten-8th grade. When I turned 16 I worked all summer at the local movie theater and also volunteered.

My SAHM mom took us to the pool everyday. It was great!!

My mom was an elementary school teacher, so she was home with me during the summer. I played outside a lot, we went to the neighbor’s pool, and we usually had a week or two of vacation somewhere within driving distance, depending on my dad’s work schedule.

My mom was divorced. We had live-in nannies. They took us places or just supervised us at home.

Sometimes we attended summer camps. Believe it or not, I often voluntarily took summer school courses in order to avoid the extreme boredom of sitting around at home.

This thread is making me want to quit my job so I can have lazy summers with my kids. I absolutely loathe figuring out summer plans my kids. So much money shelled out for sub-par experiences.
