But at least we’ll have LGBTQ classes.

Eastern is in the worst shape of all and has been waiting longer than all of them because the County has refused to put it on the list.

Eastern actually had planning funds appropriated in FY2018. Not sure what happened because I don’t follow that one as closely, but it is certainly “on the list.”

Anyway, Eastern was at least renovated in 1976. Wootton was built in 1970 and has had virtually no renovation or improvements since. Poolesville was last renovated in 1978 and is crumbling away. Capital improvement plans for these two buildings have been in the works for a decade and keep getting kicked down the road. Wootton is now 2026 and Poolesville is 2024 (along with Neelsville).

They need to stop spending or reduce spending on the new buildings and put the money toward all these schools and the other ones not mentioned.

That was nice.

Glad my kid isn't there.

Honestly, I wouldn't like my kid to be coached by you.

Cool story.

If it was a white kid calling a black or Hispanic person a derogatory name it wouldn't be a cool story would it?

Middle schoolers are notorious a holes. Why do you let a child get to you?

That's because of the population it serves. And, it would rather humor the rich school with spending tons of money on studies vs. fixing our schools. MCPS waste is horrific given what some of our kids deal with.

Its not ok to have kids in schools with no heat or ac, leaking roofs which cause mold, etc.

Compare the population of Eastern MS to the population of Neelsville MS.

How do you know?

Firsthand knowledge of both facilities and have thorough knowledge of the capital improvement plans over the years. Testified on this topic several times as well.

NP. I have never heard an actual live black person (not a fictional character) call a white person cracker. Ever. And I’m almost 50. Sadly, I have heard a lot of black children and adults called the N word by real life white people.

You're kidding right? I have heard tons of people from different backgrounds, including black people, call white people cracker.

Yes they were. What's your point?

They were? From the TV news story, it looked like fewer than 10 adults advocating for Neelsville MS. That's what I heard from a friend who attended the hearing, too.

To be fair, there were like 35 people there total advocating for different things. Yes, there were Cabin Branch people there who also were advocating for a new elementary school. Two Clarksburg ES speakers were advocating for the elementary school AND Neelesville. Your friend must've left after the 2 Neelesville students spoke- many parents did.

MCPS says otherwise.

Neelsville Middle School Capital Project: A major capital project is approved for this school to address various building systems and programmatic needs for this school. The scope of the project will be determined during the 2018–2019 school year. An FY 2020 appropriation was approved for planning to begin the architectural design for this project. An FY 2021 appropriation is recommended to continue the planning and design for this major capital project. The scheduled completion date is September 2024. Additional information regarding the major capital projects can be found in Supplement C—FY2021–2026 Major Capital Projects Update at the following link: www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/planning/cipmaster.aspx. In order for this project to be completed on this schedule, county and state funding must be provided at the levels recommended in this CIP.

Neelsville Middle School Completion date: September 2024 Proposed budget: $65 million Design goals: • Primarily a replacement project; majority of facility will be replaced, while also exploring possible options that may preserve some existing spaces • Will be constructed on site, with consideration of phasing options; no use of swing space • Increase capacity to 1200 to meet student enrollment needs • Initial evaluation of existing facility indicates renovation would be costly and would not achieve the desired teaching and learning space objectives due to space configuration and infrastructure challenges of the existing facility • Results in need to replace facility to provide enrollment and programmatic benefit

THe only problem is that it is 2020 and clearly they haven't done anything like a roof replacement and addressing the leaks and mold.
