The patent for summer must be a regional thing (new england?). My family is Mediterranean, and I can tell you that patent (especially black patent) is considered a winter material. I honestly can't imagine wearing close-toed patent pumps in the summer -- they'll turn your feet into a sauna! Knee length dress, patent pumps, hose -- how is than anything but a winter outfit?

Me too. Black patent pumps are my go-to holiday party shoes. I can’t imagine wearing them in the summer. I have some nude patent pumps I wear year round. It is so much more durable than suede, especially with wet winters sidewalks and slush/snow on the ground.

Those shoes might be nice to take the grand kids to the zoo but you’re not going to get any looks with a 2” heel.

Patent is summer, but people are more fluid these days. I would never wear white in the winter but people do it.

With that said, I have a pair of velvet louboutins for galas. I bought them 4 years ago. Best money ever spent.

All the advice on this thread is conservative. Maybe that's exactly right for OP's function. But elsewhere, there are lots of open toed shoes suitable for fancy events in winter, and there are people wearing stockings with them.

Those are beautiful shoes. Unless you're swimming in money, though, I wouldn't spend crazy sums on shoes you only wear occasionally. Call me a cheap mofo but my feet changed size in the last two years - hello, mid 40s - and all my beautiful shoes no longer fit. I would be even more upset if that included Louboutin's I'd only worn a couple of times.
