Providing guidance to a kid who asks for it is called parenting.

Not when the parent asks for "easy electives", that is definitely not setting up the child for the right attitude in life. Instead they can ask something that makes sense, such as interesting elective, or good teachers, etc. Asking specifically for an easy way out (irrespective of the subject, or their child's interests) seems quite vain.

It wouldn't really be possible for us to give feedback on an easy elective since so much depends on the specific teacher and how it's taught at a specific school. He should talk with other kids at his school to get some ideas.

But, FWIW, at my kids' HS I'd recommend Psychology (not AP) as an easy elective. DS took it last year and the teacher specifically aims to make it a fun break for kids with otherwise heavy schedules. Little homework, lots of emphasis on how it applies to the students (how to learn, mental health) and they watch a lot of movies with psychology themes (e.g. Awakenings was one of them).
