I've timed it. It takes me 24 seconds to unbuckle my kid from their car seat, have them stand outside the car, and to get their coat on (and zippered/hood up). In that 24 seconds, we could have run across the parking lot and into the warm store! So we don't wear coats very often when running errands. Playing outside, sure, but it doesn't sound like your DH was doing that, so I don't really understand the big deal.

Being cold doesn't make you sick.

No big deal. My boys almost always refuse to wear a coat. You have to learn to pick your battles depending on 1) how really cold it is and 2) how long exposure will last.

It depends on where they were going. To somewhere inside and only going in the car, no big deal.
To the playground, more of an issue.

You should hide his coat.

Then tell him “Honey, don’t be so dramatic, it’s NBD to go out without a coat - even the 2 year old does it!”

Seems like no big deal. My 2 yo would throw a fit about coats so I never forced it. If he was cold, he would ask.

They have a way of being inept with the result being you (the mom) keep doing the work.

My husband was claiming not to be able to use a blender very well. He has many advanced degrees. I think he can handle it...

You should trust your spouse to parent, don’t treat him like a kid or he will stop helping and then you’ll be back on here complaining about how everything falls on your shoulders and he doesn’t pull his weight.

Also cold doesn’t cause colds, as others have said. Your kid is fine and benefits from different types of parenting.

Tell him that if he is wearing a coat then his child probably needs one too. Child may choose not to wear it but he should bring it with him. Some people need this spelled out.

Stop looking for reasons to be mad when then are none

New England mom of a 2 year old here. I rarely put a coat on DS. He wears a light fleece zip up over a tshirt and sweater so he can be safe in his carseat. I have a puffy vest and coat in the car with hat and gloves, but it's a very rare occasion I use them. He won't keep the gloves on, rarely keeps the hat on, and I've found the times when I go for the coat or vest over this described outfit, he's eventually too hot and clammy. He literally runs every where he goes (if he's allowed). If I was running everywhere I was going, I sure as hell wouldn't want to be wearing a puffy jacket--hell I want to take it off when I'm just shoveling the walk.

Your daughter is fine.

I do bring the coat in case we decide to stop at the store or the car breaks down or something (not an issue around here most likely but I spent 6 years in New England for college/grad school and everyone always kept a coat and sleeping bag in the car). But I don't put it on the kids if we are just crossing the street to where our car is parked, or going from the car right into the store and it's less than a minute outside in the parking lot. Although if it's a grocery store I do because those are usually kept so cold.

Now if we're going to the playground or walking to school or going to be outside more than a couple mins, of course i put the coat on.

Kids are 2.5 and 6.

Are they going to be outside a lot? I routinely skip coats on warm winter days like today when we are just driving to the store/gym/etc. And I travel with no diaper bag for short trips - DS only poops after nap anyway.

It is going to be a long life if you keep trying so hard to find things to insult in DH’s choices.
